– You are a graduate of the London School of Economics – majoring in Conflict Studies. Therefore, you worked in conflict zones in the Caucasus after the war in Georgia in 2008. What exactly were you doing there?
– During my studies in London, I decided to specialise in conflicts in the Caucasus, because I understood this region best. When I was about to complete my master’s thesis on conflicts, a war broke out in Georgia. I was so engrossed in the whole situation in the Caucasus that it was impossible to talk to me about anything else. Immediately after defending my master’s thesis, I went to Georgia for an internship to work with ethnic minorities – mainly Armenians and Azerbaijanis who live in Georgia. At that time, we traveled a lot to those villages that were most damaged by the war. I really wanted to be part of the post-conflict peace process because it allowed me to see with my own eyes what I had read about in books all year in London…
